    Residential care home

The thought ' Who will take care of my special child after us ' will be on the minds of all parents. I am sure this topic would have been raised before. I am starting it again . .

A few of us parents want to set up a 24 hour residential care center .

I shall be grateful if suggestions on forming Rules and regulation for the structure, activities, management , facilities to be provided , Admission procedure and screening,, agreement with parents etc .

    Kasturi,

That's a wonderful idea, but a huge undertaking!

It occurs to me that perhaps one way to start would be to get the funding or startup funds together. Once you've got that in place, it might be worthwhile to either hire a manager who has experience with residential homes for the disabled or a lawyer with knowledge of the relevant laws.

I'll be interested to hear how this develops. Please keep us informed.

Perhaps if possible also shadow another residential facility? Look at their set-up, their rules, their way of doing things as a means to see what you might and might not want to do..

Sounds a wonderful idea. I was wondering if you mean that you parents and friends want to manage the caring yourselves/ as a team and perhaps get helpers? Permission and legal requirements and insurance rules will vary greatly from country to country. Once you have established the funding - probably on a charitable basis - I imagine the biggest step will be finding a building.

The idea is manage the Residential Home by hiring professionals retaining operational control with Parents. Well it is an ambitious project, just a dream now, but hopefully one day it will take a concrete shape.

The main objectives we have are:-

    1. Establish a residential care unit which will give respectful life to children with disabilities including Autism.
    2. Run a special school, day care facility,
    3. Vocational training / therapy center
    4. Respite care unit and social security.
    5. Medical care center.
    6. Supplemental parental residential facility / old age home serving the purposes of allowing parents and/or independent caregivers to contribute as care
takers and, trainers for the persons with developmental disabilities AND providing the parents of such persons in their old age the required care and allow
them to be in the same premises where their child is also taken care of.

We are studying how such homes are run elsewhere. Ideas and suggestions are most welcome.

It's a wonderful dream and something that would be wonderful in all our areas. I suppose the day centre Daniel goes to is a little similar but on a huge scale and without the same goal. It has a day centre and a home for both the elderly and the mentally infirm. But there is not the close family connection which is your aim.
I really wish you success with it.
